Dear Friends,
Recently, I was approached by a group of people trying to
help Jaylen (not his real name), a 19 year-old young man
from Atlanta, GA. Jaylen was arrested for shoplifting less
than $3.00 of goods in 2013, although he was with his
mother at the time of the arrest and allegedly never left the
store. Jaylen comes from a poor family, and is not able to
afford his court costs. After being jailed for four days for the
offense, he was asked by the courts to pay $150.00 in fees,
or he may be put back in jail.
I would like to call on my family, friends, the World Youth
Served Board of Directors, and our partners such as Shaping
Haiti's Youth, Inc., to right this wrong. I'm asking for ten small
donations of $15.00 each to cover Jaylen's court fee. I
understand I may receive more than that, but I will gladly
return the additional funds if asked to do so. This is a rather
urgent need, as the deadline to pay the courts is end of
January 2014.
Please make your check or money order for $15.00 USD
payable to World Youth Served, Inc., 2870 Peachtree Road,
Suite 253, Atlanta, GA 30305. A thank you page will be
posted on our website at www.worldyouthserved.org. I
thank you in advance for your generosity and care on this
matter, and I hope that we all can see Jaylen out and
about, making something out of his life.
Humbly Yours,
Jesse Boyd
