World Youth Served, Inc. (WYS) and Shaping Haiti's Youth, Inc. (SHY) are proud to
jointly announce plans to enter into a formal partnership. WYS AND SHY have been
working together on several projects over the years, and are currently working hand in
hand in completing the preparations to open a School of Arts and Crafts in
Southwestern Haiti. The school will give Haitian youth in the area an opportunity to
further their education past public schooling, by providing the ability to learn new
trades and skills that can help them achieve brighter futures for them and their families.
The school building has already been acquired and renovations are underway. And
through this partnership, school supplies such as computer monitors have already been
delivered to school for use when the school opens in late 2015 / early 2016. Also, while
SHY is prioritizing in its action plan to keep enrollment and tuitions fees low for the
prospective students, WYS intends to raise these attendance costs through generous
donations mainly in the Atlanta area, thus eliminating all costs for the Haitian youth.
Shaping Haiti’s Youth has been a reliable partner of World Youth Served since 2013;
indeed, World Youth Served created in 2014 the WYS the Haitian Affairs Committee.
The Haitian Affairs Committee manages all programs of sports education or community
that relate to the country. The committee is currently strongly involved with the
opening of the Jérémie School of Arts and Crafts and funding scholarships for Haitian
students to attend. Prior to 2014, several WYS volunteers served in an advisory role as
SHY reviewed projects in Haiti, and in 2013 WYS and SHY collaborated on sending
soccer balls to Haiti, as part of soccer development programs for amputee victims of the
2010 earthquake that killed over 200,000 people in Haiti. In an additional show of strong
commitment, World Youth Served also submitted its past and future collaborative
projects with SHY to the US Internal Revenue Service in 2014: they were positively
received.
Shaping Haiti’s Youth, Inc. is a not-for-profit organization, founded in 2011, with is
social headquarters in West Palm Beach, FL. SHY's mission is to develop and maintain
in Haiti infrastructures and programs that will benefit the youth of the country, more
specifically, in the Haitian city of Jérémie. World Youth Served, Inc. is a 501(c)3 not-forprofit
corporation headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia. WYS imparts optimism for local
and international youth by carrying out programs and initiatives in social awareness
through sports, community projects and educational support.
A PAST WYS/SHY JOINT PROJECT: SOCCER BALLS FOR HAITI YOUTH
In August 2013, World Youth Served was contacted by Shaping Haiti's Youth. The objective was to purchase 50 soccer balls and have them hand-delivered to poor children in Haiti by prominent Haitian attorney and former Haitian presidential candidate Maître Jean Henry Céant. The balls were purchased in Atlanta, GA from chain store FIVE BELOW, sent to Port-au-Prince, HAITI via DHL and distributed in Carrefour - the epicenter of the devastating January 2010 earthquake. The carefully coordinated distribution began on August 17, 2013 and lasted through October 1, 2013. The WYS Board of Directors contributed a total of $384.54 as a monetary gift to the project, which represented 39% of the total cost of the project ($979.50).
