World Youth Served (WYS) surprises its partner, Shaping Haiti’s Youth, Inc. (West Palm
Beach, FL) with a wonderful gift of 6 brand new Dell 20” flat-screen monitors for its soonto-be
opened School of Arts and Crafts in Jérémie, Haiti. The monitors were both a
surprise and a critical gift for Shaping Haiti’s Youth President Dr. Raymond Rene as he
prepared for a goodwill visit to Jérémie, Haiti. Shaping Haiti’s Youth has been ramping
up effort to open a School of Arts and Crafts in Jérémie; however, the entire project has
been more overwhelming than anticipated. Several tower computers were purchased a
few years back, but were not able to be used with monitors missing. Dr. Rene’s goodwill
trip was primarily intended to provide encouragement to the people of Jérémie and as
such, presenting the monitors directly to the people was instrumental in lifting up the
spirits of the people of the area.
This World Youth Served initiative was made possible thanks to the efforts of WYS
President Jesse Boyd, as he learned of the goodwill trip and wanted to provide a gift for
the people of Jérémie. After inquiring and learning of the need, Mr. Boyd personally
raised $744.60 in less than one week for the purchase and shipping of the monitors. Four
of the six monitors were delivered on time for the Haiti trip, and the remaining two will
be shipped at a later date. The new monitors, along with the previously purchased tower
computers, will make up the computer cluster for the School of Arts and Crafts,
scheduled to open in early 2016.
The School of Arts and Crafts is a program lead by Shaping Haiti’s Youth to build and
develop a vocational school in Jérémie that would allow high school graduates in the
area to attend an institution of higher learning while staying close to home. While
Shaping Haiti’s Youth has already secured an 8,000 square-foot facility near downtown
Jérémie, World Youth Served will be a major player in providing startup funds to furnish
the school and make it self-sustaining by Fall 2018.
